In short: we collect nothing. Mareal has no account, no servers, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. What you log stays on your iPhone, and in your own iCloud if you turn on sync. We, HOLMES IV PTE. LTD., cannot see it.
What Mareal stores, and where
Everything you log (period days, symptoms, mood, temperature, cervical fluid, ovulation tests, sex, notes) and your settings are stored only on your iPhone.
- The data is encrypted by iOS whenever your iPhone is locked.
- It is excluded from iCloud Backup and from backups to a computer. If you lose your iPhone and don’t use iCloud sync or exports, the data is gone.
- Mareal contains no networking code of its own. It never sends your data to us or to anyone else.
iCloud sync (optional, off by default)
If you turn on iCloud sync, Mareal stores a copy of your data in your own private iCloud database, so it appears on your other Apple devices.
- Your logged data is stored in end-to-end encrypted fields. The keys are kept in your iCloud Keychain. Neither Apple nor we can read it.
- Apple can still see that Mareal stores data in your iCloud, roughly how much, and when it changes. iCloud is provided by Apple under Apple’s Privacy Policy.
- We have no access to your iCloud data.
- You can turn sync off at any time and choose to delete the iCloud copy.
Encrypted exports
You can export your data as a file locked with a passphrase you choose. The file is encrypted on your iPhone (AES-256) before you save or share it. Where you send it is up to you. Without the passphrase nobody, including us, can open it.
Reminders and Face ID
- Reminders are scheduled on your iPhone. The notification only says “Reminder”, so nothing personal appears on the lock screen.
- If you turn on Face ID, iOS handles the check. Mareal only learns whether it succeeded and never receives biometric data.
Crash reports
If you have chosen in iOS Settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may send us anonymous crash reports. They describe where the app crashed. They contain no logged data. You can turn this off in Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements.
Deleting your data
- In Mareal: Settings › Privacy & data › Delete everything. If iCloud sync is on, this also deletes the iCloud copy.
- Deleting the app removes all data stored on your iPhone.
- You can also remove Mareal’s iCloud data in Settings › [your name] › iCloud › Manage Account Storage.

Mareal’s forecasts are estimates. It is not a method of contraception and does not diagnose any condition.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date above. Because we collect nothing, a change can never apply to data we already hold: there is none.
